Understed Bakker

384 hectares in North Jutland

Gubra Green has acquired Understed Bakker, 384 hectares of landscape and nature in North Jutland, as part of our long-term work with nature restoration. The area has until now consisted of separate agricultural and natural parcels. Our ambition is to develop it into one large contiguous natural area.

Why this area

Understed Bakker is one of Denmark’s most significant connected natural landscapes and is identified in the University of Copenhagen’s Mere, bedre og større natur i Danmark (2024) as one of 149 areas considered critical to securing the country’s biodiversity.

Research shows that large, interconnected natural areas are decisive for biodiversity. They create better conditions for viable populations and increase the robustness and resilience of ecosystems against both natural and human pressures. This is the development we want to see at Understed Bakker.

What we are doing

“Understed Bakker is an opportunity to help restore a large, connected landscape where nature’s own dynamics can shape the future of the area. In collaboration with local stakeholders and biology experts, we aim to create better conditions for biodiversity and resilient ecosystems over time.”
