Climate & energy

Our holistic approach to Planet & ESG

The healthcare sector faces two interconnected challenges: rising chronic diseases and a growing environmental footprint, both intensified by the climate and nature crises.

We see this as our responsibility and opportunity to help shape a future where healthcare companies contribute to resilient, regenerative systems that safeguard people and the natural world they depend on.

This systemic view guides our approach: ESG is embedded in our decisions, reflecting our ambition to advance science while supporting human and planetary well being.

As the first listed company committing 10% of annual pre tax profits to net zero and nature positive initiatives, we extend our impact beyond our footprint. These efforts are led by our dedicated subsidiary, Gubra Green.

There is no human health without planetary health.

ENVIRONMENT

Accelerating climate & nature action

We reduce our climate footprint in line with science while investing in solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and restore biodiversity beyond our footprint.

Climate & energy

Science-based targets driving our climate action

We follow a dual approach to address our climate impact:

  • We reduce our operational and value chain footprint in line with climate science. Our near term target to halve Scope 1-2 GHG emissions by 2030 and measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions is validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aligned with the 1.5°C pathway.
  • We invest 10% of our annual pre-tax profit beyond our footprint with a focus on projects which reduce greenhouse gas emissions and restore biodiversity , inspired by SBTis’ beyond value chain mitigation guidelines.

Sustainable labs

Sustainability built into our labs

Building on years of strong work by our teams, sustainability is embedded in how we run our laboratories. In 2025, all Gubra labs achieved My Green Lab certification at the highest “Green” level, reflecting excellence in energy efficiency, waste reduction, chemical handling, and sustainable procurement.

My Green Lab is the industry’s most widely recognized lab sustainability program, endorsed by UN-backed Race to Zero and recommended by the U.S. EPA

We support continuous improvement through a dedicated group of Green Lab Ambassadors who drive awareness and changes across teams.

Materials & Waste

Reducing impact from materials and waste

Our lab activities rely on a range of materials, many made from plastics, chemicals and regents. We work to reduce environmental impact through circular solutions, smarter sourcing, and waste minimization.

We follow the 12 principles of green chemistry, reduce hazardous substances, and – seek to maintain the highest safety standards for handling regents and chemicals.

Nature & biodiversity

Protecting and restoring ecosystems

Guided by our holistic approach to ESG, Gubra aspires to be a catalyst for a future, where ecosystems are not just protected, but actively regenerated and allowed to thrive. We pursue this vision through a dual approach: minimizing our own environmental footprint across operations, while boldly investing beyond our footprint in projects that restore nature’s vitality and foster flourishing biodiversity through Gubra Green.
